Hello everyone!
As most of you are aware, Minecraft 1.9 "Combat Update" has just been released and it has a massive number of new features and changes, especially to the combat aspect of the game.
Of course the question everyone is asking: When will we upgrade to 1.9????
The short answer: As soon as we are ready
The longer answer:
Like most servers, the server software we use is called Spigot. This is a heavily modified version of the vanilla Minecraft server, developed by an amazing bunch of developers in the SpigotMC community. Each time Mojang releases a major update, server owners must wait for a new Spigot to be released before beginning any testing or upgrades. Impressively however, the SpigotMC team has already released a version for 1.9! This means we can begin planning and testing the upgrades, but please understand that this process takes a lot of time and work! We have to test all the servers/plugins on the new Spigot 1.9 and, of course, there will be many issues we need to overcome.
So please be patient, it will come!
Minecraft 1.9 - The Combat Update:
This update is quite different to previous ones because it includes some major changes to the combat mechanics (see this announcement for a complete list). For this reason alone, the update process is going to be very difficult because it will impact the behaviour of most plugins and games, possibly breaking the way many of our minigames work. This is something we will be very focused on.
Q: When will AddstarMC be updated to 1.9?
Unfortunately at this point, we don't have an estimate but we will keep you updated. I would expect it to be at least a few weeks. For now, you will need to downgrade to 1.8 to continue playing on our servers.
Q: Will all AddstarMC servers be updated in one big release?
This is something we have not yet decided, but it is likely that we will take a staged approach to updating to 1.9. The Hub server will likely be the first server updated, since this would be the easiest one to do first and allow all players (1.8 or 1.9) to join. Then we will rollout the updates to each server as we can. Each server will have it's own unique difficulties and challenges during the upgrade process.
Q: Will the survival or skyblock worlds be reset?
No. We will definitely not be resetting either of these worlds. Far too many people have invested a lot of their time into working on amazing towns/builds/islands for us to go and just reset it all. Plus there is no real benefit in doing so.
Q: Will any other worlds be reset?
At this point we don't know. It is likely that at some time in the future, we will reset the Hardcore worlds, which would result in the Hardcore worlds being generated with 1.9 content and chunks.
Q: What about The End? It's all so different now!
We haven't yet decided what we will do with The End, since we currently have our own special custom Strongholds. It is very likely that when we initially upgrade Survival to 1.9, The End will be disabled until we work on what we'll do with it. But don't worry, since The End is a separate world, we won't need to reset the survival world to do this. Remember The End is currently reset every time the Enderdragons are killed.
